The first onsite factor to look at is the number of pages the domain has. Google does place strength to domains that have a higher number of pages. The second is if the keyword phrase is in the title. The third is if the keyword phrase is in the url, fourth is if the keyword phrase is in the description. The fifth factor is if the keyword phrase is in the heading. And the 6th is the cashe age of the domain, the cashe age will tell us the last google sent it’s robots over the domain. If it is somewhat resently then that means google likes it.

To find out the number of pages to the domain we are going to go back to the search status add on, on Mozilla Firefox we used when working through the offsite factors. While on the domain of the page you are checking your going to right click on the search status icon and go to “show indexed page”, Make sure you use the google option because we want to be familiar with what google is seeing relating to this domain.

To inspect to see if the keyword phrase is in the title, description, url, and heading, go to the search page with the domain. Here you can see the title, the url and the description and check if the keyword phrase is in any or all of these. To check to see if it is in the heading go to the domain itself and look at the header. An alternate way is while you are on the domain right click and go to view the page source. You are looking for a header tag or it may say H1, here you can check if the keyword phrase is there.

To see cashe age go back to the search page, next to the title you will see a blue link that says cashe, click on it. When you click on it a grey box will show up at the top of the page, in this grey box it will reveal the last date that google sent it’s robots to check the page. If it was pretty resent it is a pretty good indication that google likes this page.

Now you have all the information from the offsite and onsite factors, so you can make a decision if you have a chance at beating them out for the first spot. You don’t have to be able to defeat each one of these so you have to make a verdict from the investigation you have done.
